Southern Spars specialises in the design and construction of carbon fibre spars, components, rigging, and rig servicing.
As industry pioneers, we built our first carbon fibre spar in 1991 and ever since have pursued a passion for producing world class products, including the recently developed carbon fibre rigging - Element C6 and EC6+. Innovation, technology and design are the guiding principles for Southern Spars. We use state-of-the-art design software and manufacturing processes and employ the highest standards in quality control, to ensure our customers’ requirements are met with precision.
Southern Spars has centres in the USA, France, South Africa, and headquarters in Auckland, New Zealand.
When Open 60 Paprec-Virbac 2 won the non-stop 29,000 nautical mile Barcelona World Race earlier in 2008, they did so using leading-edge carbon mast and carbon rigging technology. In fact the only finishers of that race were rigged with Southern Spars. The same state-of-the-art technology, innovative design thinking and commitment to customers for the Paprec-Virbac 2 project goes into every project undertaken at Southern Spars - from superyachts to grand-prix racing machines through to one-design class racing vessels and cruising yachts.
